SALARY

Based on Merriam-Webster’s dictionary, salary is the fixed compensation paid regularly for services, wherein, all of the people who has a job or works at a company, corporation, factory, etc., receives a payment for their work. Sometimes salary is the most considered thing at choosing where to work especially when there are other places that have a higher pay for their workers than in your place. Would you still stay at your place when there are other opportunities of having high salary in other places, or would you stand firm and stay loyal at the place you’re working now? So now, let’s start connecting and focusing this article to our main topic which is the salary of our medical workers inside and outside the country.

What I have here is some statements from the article made by Don Kevin Hapal; why our nurses are leaving.

As Mr. Eleanor Nolasco said, "Hangga't hindi nabibigay ang disenteng sahod, talagang mapupuwersa na lumabas ng bansa ang ating mga nurses, (Until decent salaries are given, our nurses will be forced to leave.) The problem lies with local government units (LGUs), whose priorities don't always include healthcare.”

“Malaking bagay po talaga 'yung salary. Kapag okay po siya, why not po? Kung talagang masisigurado na may work na pangmatagalan na may career pathways, (Salary is a really big factor. If it's okay, why not? If you're ensured of a long-term job with career pathways.)” As Mr. Jimmy Carpon shared.

Filipino Nurses United convenor Eleanor Nolasco said that the promise of high salary abroad, in contrast with the low wages in the Philippines, is a major push factor for our nurses to leave.

As you see, many Filipino medical workers want a worth-the-stress salary that Philippines cannot give. To this, Filipinos tend to work abroad because they offer higher wages than our own country. Others sacrifices the connection and bond to the family, friends and love ones just to give them the right amount of budget for their monthly expenses.

In contrast, local government units do notmake an action about it. If this will continue, maybe sooner or later, Philippines will run out of medical workers.
